Chillwave trendsetters Toro Y Moi showed up in Atlanta mid October to the Masquerade to get the juices flowing. Chaz Budnick hit the stage on a cool Georgia evening to start the breakdown of funkiness. Synth pop is obviously on the rise and with good reason, the melodic evening was poppy right off the bat when the band leaped into “New Beat.” Using his keyboard and an effects board Chaz who was backed by a full touring band went into play songs like “Still Sound,” and “Talamak,” which was  a huge highlight of the night bringing the level of sexiness in the room to a high. Shows like this are a nice change of a pace to the ever-popular electro scene going on right now. Smooth beats and easy lyrics to dance to. The show has an over-all entertaining feel to it, but everybody also knows they get to see something special. It isn’t a genre that is going to blow up and entice every frat bro in a 50 mile radius to come out. It’s a collection of people who like music for the creativity of it. All music is an opinion taken on something that has come before for it, and Toro Y Moi is a nice reminder of when 80’s electronica came out and the advancements music was making because of technology. The same story can be told today.
