MiM0SA’s September 2011 Mix

When did you first get into producing music?
I got into producing when I was 16 years when I picked up a
program called fruity loops and started making side trance jingles because
that’s what was popular at the time kind of like how dubstep is now. I met a
few friends, who were side trance producers and made a few tracks, I didn’t
really play them for anybody cause they sucked. I was into hip hop before that,
I grew up in California and that’s just what I was listening to.

After that I
went to Burning Man to check out more side trance and I heard this new chill
out music, anything that wasn’t side trance was chill out music. I heard it and
the shit I heard was a cross of hip hop and side trance and it had the hip hop
beats and psychadelic sound of side trance.  I liked that sound and that’s where it all kind of started.

How many cities are you hitting in support of your new album
Sanctuary, is this the biggest tour run you have done?
It’s close to the same as my last tour, it’s going be 160
shows for the year.  Every weekend we’re not doing a show we have hit a festival. It’s been cool,
festivals are always fun, the crowds are huge.

Does Touring ever take a hold with the partying and being in
a different city every night?
I don’t really party, I play shows, we drive to the venue, I
eat my food. I get ready for the show, I prep my set, we do sound check and
then I got on the bus, I get ready to play.  While we’re driving or parked at the venue I set up my sound
system and I am working on music while these guys set up the rig. I am constantly
fuckin’ working.
How does it feel to see fans go crazy every night you go out
and play?
I am just nothing but grateful, I can’t believe it every
time. I just feel extremely grateful. That’s all I can say. My fans are amazing,
I just want to keep doin’ what I’m doin’ and hope they keep coming to shows.
What music are into right now?
Electronic artists?
Any artists, whatever you vibe to…
I listen to hip hop man, my favorite album right now is
Drake’s, Take Care. I fuckin’ love it, I have always loved hip hop.

After spending time in NYC, in retrospect how did it move
you?

I’m a westcoast kid, I’ve grown up in California I’ll always
have the sound. Being out in NY, it didn’t change me, but it definitely
effected me and changed my perspective a little bit. My outlook is the same and
I’ll keep my sound, but I try different things now. I heard a lot of stuff at
parties that I would never go to on the west coast and I was vibing it and I
went home and carried that vibe with me. I would make little stems and what not
and at the end of it I had the heart of a new project and took it back to LA
and refined it.
Sort of like the low-end theory movement they’re pushing out
there w/ gas lamp and other music?
Yeah exactly, everybody knows that it’s important to merge
the gap and trying to infuse the different sounds that we have and I am really
vibing with it. It’s really dope. Music is about unity and getting people to
feel great and you gotta hit all the notes.
Your latest project was huge and it has reached a lot of
people, what’s your sound off for the vibe to this readers?
It feels amazing, I made it with a lot of love. It feels
great for it to be recepted well. I feel super blessed, bro. I just want to
keep doin’ it for everybody out there.
