Tycho Live @ Masquerade, Atlanta, GA (VTT Photos & Feature)

Tycho, who is out out of San Francisco, are currently on tour in promotion for the project Dive that you can purchase here. Scott Hansen put together this band Tycho and brought along another great electronica band, Beacon, who were a great surprise to see open up having never heard them before. The type of music Tycho is putting out there is completely directed at a niche market. It’s people who may like the sound of electronic music, but don’t want their face melted or their ears to bleed from overused bass or high pitched sythn. In the world of EDM there a million sub genres. In those sub genres are more mini genres. And in those mini genres there are some people who are just making noise with computers… but anyway Hansen brought along two of his friends for this tour that showcases an hour long set of gorgeous visuals with a range of hot air ballons, mountains, and ocean's to accompany the music Hansen and his bandmates course through. Where they fall in EDM is a little corner you may like to call ambient chillwave. Music you could dance to, but you don’t neccesarly have to. Just take it in. Enjoy it. Hansen is mysterious on stage. A pretty big guy, good looking, but very soft spoken. Unlike many of the chillwave bands out there and unlike their Brooklyn native opener Beacon, Tycho does not use any lyrics to touch the listener. It’s all music. After checking Hansens tumblr, where you can find pictures he created on his iPhone or his top 50 songs, it’s easy to see he is a different type of individual completely intrigued by art. It’s nice to see somebody so in touch with technology, but so separated from anything shiny and glamourous.

Show highlights: “Elegy” “A Walk” and a solo encore of a brand new song he decided not divulge the name of that was coated with a really nice bass tone.
