Sweetlife Festival 2012 (VTT Pics & Re-Cap)
Saturday April the 28th marked for many a turning of the seasons in the Mid-Atlantic, as the second annual Sweetlife Festival took over the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. Let’s say 15,000 strong amongst a mild and overcast day, the crowd was everything one could want out of a single-day festival – diverse as can be. The range of attendees was naturally due to a few things, primarily the blend of acts, general green-friendly vibe of sustainable living, and the easy-accessibility of central Maryland – f*ck yes, DMV.

The headliners of the noon-10PM day included Avicii at the top preceded by Kid Cudi, who as his fans
know doesn’t perform all that often these days, but seems to have a certain affection for Maryland and played Towson Unviversity the night previous (not to mention, he absolutely killed sh*t, more on that later on). Otherwise the smattering of talent included notables from EDM, indie, hip hop, and everything else, including The Shins, ASAP Rocky, Fun., The Knocks, RAC, and Action Motherf*ckin Bronson.
Between two stages the scene was as flexible and enjoyable as can be, with plenty of opportunity to catch more or less every act throughout the day, while also allowing the more specific fans to camp it out for as long as needed to get the best view of their number one…
This diversity as a result filled the scene with your lax jacket-wearing shaggy-haired 17-yr-olds, to your EDM fanatical Asian troupe, to your too-cool hipsters – either way, everyone was loving being outside and enjoying the hell out of the day. Solely positive vibes, good times, and eight dollar beers (meh).
In addition to the musical side of things, Sweetgreen and festival organizers put a significant stress on the food options available, bringing in an assortment of healthy and progressive options from around the region. The resulting ‘food forest’ plus all the other clever features between allowed for plenty of ways to occupy oneself throughout what was the first outdoor concert of the year for many of those present.
Overall, great time, solid scene, fantastic lineup, looking forward to next year. For further pics, see our album here, and peep the comprehensive array from festival staff here. Furthermore, stay tuned for additional VTT features on ASAP, Cudi, and The Knocks coming soon, and check out our full album of these pics and more here.
