Interview: Reptar Talks Free Pizza, Jamming, and Jim-E Stack Remix
Counterpoint Music Festival is right around the corner and our team is getting really hyped. We’ve been running interviews on some of the acts like Treasure Fingers and Washed Out. To close out the week we’ve got a really great feature on a band born out of Athens, GA called Reptar.
We met in some weird way after high school. Probably not a very good story. Told it too many times.
You guys have been asked before about your connection to “Rugrats,” but we want to know which characters do each of you identify the most with? Which one of you is Tommy Pickles?!?
I don’t know yall. We are just trying to be a music band and maintain a good level of positive musical creation. Some fun stuff about us: we like roller coasters now. We went to cedar point the other day and had a lot of independent psychedelic coaster experiences.
Do you guys have a favorite venue to play in the States?
Well there’s this place called “skate around usa” in athens. We have not played there but we will be in the near future and when we do, it will be our favorite!
You’re playing the upcoming Counterpoint Music Festival; do you guys have a preference when it comes to performing at smaller venues or large-scale festivals?
No way jamming is cool no matter how you jammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmMmmmm.mmmmmmmm.mmm.
Free pizza for life.
We have not gotten around that problem. Unless your record sells a million copies backed by a major record label it is not possible for artists to make money off record sales. We tour hard and have a bus that runs on free vegetable oil and barely get by. We are lucky that we have fans that pay to come see us play. Support indie labels, but more importantly support local bands because the only way we make money is if you buy tickets. I guess some bands decide to put their music in commercials and shit but have been really selective and decided that not’s a fair way to put the music out there.
Vegetable oil earlier today.
Yeah we had a mutual friend and he did a cool remix. We are trying to do a show with him in new orleans this year.
Free pizza for life.
Most artists are struggling to make money in the industry, how have you guys gotten around that problem?
How did the remix with Jim-E Stack come about, did he reach out to the band?
Yes we have some new material and are gonna start recording some things here and there in october.
