Scott Hansen’s musical brain child, Tycho, has been popularized with a lot of help from having a strong web presence and playing intimate live shows of music that relies heavily on hardware when making in the studio. Tycho’s live show is amazing because it’s amazing what Hansen can create in the studio and recreate with a live a band accompanied by hand picked visuals.

Tycho recently came to Atlanta to perform at The Masquerade. Check out the photos and interview.

Last time we saw you in ATL we were introduced to the
Brooklyn band, Beacon. Do you handpick these smaller acts to come along on the
road with you?

Well actually we have this blog called iSO50.com, it’s my
design blog, but it has also become somewhat of a music blog. Jacob Alexander does all the curation
for the music, he’s an A&R and Ghostly. He will usually bring us the bands
we tour with and in the case of Beacon he brought them to us.

Your blog is often mentioned when your music is brought up,
when did you start it?

Damn, probably around 2006. It really started as my
design portfolio and then I started I posting my influences design wise. It
slowly developed into something more, something including music + photography.

Where do you come up with the visual counter piece to your
live performance?

I met a director named Charles Bergqust and I really liked his
work. I gave him some ideas and he went and shot all of that base footage. I
through it in after effects and it all came together really nice.

How long have you been creating visual art and what were
doing before you started Tycho?

I’ve been doing visual art my whole life, but I’ve been
doing graphic design for about 10 or 12 years. That’s basically all I’ve done.

What capacity of design were you doing?

I’ve done all sorts of stuff. Interface design for software,
ad agency work, free lance webwork. Graphic Design is a very open ended career
so I’ve sort of tried my hand at all of them.

Do you spend a lot of time by yourself in the studio when
your making a new album?

Yea that’s like 90% of the process and then at the end I
start to bring other people in to help and mix stuff. This album might be a
little different. It could be more off a group effort, I haven’t figured it
out.

Have you laid down a few tracks that will be on the new
album?

Yup, there’s a few of them. They aren’t completely done, but
we perform them live still. I have a bunch of sketches and some ideas that have
flushed out.
